Details of our tour

Art & Culture in Japan provides a unique opportunity to join a small group of like minded people exploring Japan’s exciting cultural and artistic heritage.
Most tours to Japan leave the visitor bewildered by the cultural difference and complexity of artistic expression. By providing a context for understanding the history of Japan this tour will enhance the participants’ appreciating of the art and culture.

With more than thirty years experience of Japan, much of this as an internationally recognized Japanese art curator and historian your tour leader Dr Gary Hickey will provide lectures and tours that will ensure a fuller understanding and appreciation of this fascinating country.


 

Number of Days: 14 days

Timing: Mid November 2008 and late March and late November 2009

Cost: $5800 or $6800 single room supplement - land content only.

Overnight stays: Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto

Tokyo National Museum, Edo-Tokyo Museum, Engagkuji Temple, Ise Shrine, Tokugawa Museum, Hōryūji Temple, Tōdaiji Temple, Byōdō-in Temple, Manpukuji Temple, Kiyomizu Temple, Himeji Castle, Kinkakuji Temple, Ryōanji Temple, Nijōjō Castle, Sanjūsangendō Temple

Lectures:
There will be regular lectures and discussions in order to provide a background for the various site visits.

Fitness Level
:
This tour requires walking on site visits and whilst traveling by public transport (bus and train). Public transport in Japan can often be very crowded.

Please note: This itinerary may change slightly to accommodate unforeseen events such as the closure of museums, change in flight schedules and exhibition schedules, etc.

To reserve a place:
A deposit of $500 AUD by the 1st September 2008 (Tour 1), 1st January 2009 (Tour 2) and 1st September 2009 (Tour 3) and balance seven weeks prior to departure.
